AxTrons is distributed as shareware on an "I trust you" basis and is not in
any form to be considered public domain or free. Considerable effort went
into creating the program and I am retaining full protection under the
copyright laws. However, I also want you to be able to share my games with
your friends. So, please feel free to hand on as many copies as you would
like, as long as you include all of the original files.
If you are going to use AxTrons for your personal enjoyment, whether you got
it from a distributor or a friend, please mail a check or money order to me at
the above address. The registration fee for AxTrons is $10. I depend on your
registering to continue devoting full time to making fun to use programs that
don't require you to adapt to the program. I'd also like your comments and
suggestions. In exchange, I'll add your name to the list of those eligible for
updates, contests, and 24-hour technical support. If you wish, you may use
the registration form by typing PRINT AXTRONS.REG at the DOS prompt.
Like all of my games, AxTrons is designed for full color with high resolution
displays and should run on most PC's and work alikes. AxTrons is compatible
with MDA, CGA, and EGA. The AxTrons arena uses the full screen width in CGA
and EGA. MDA display adapters only allow a half screen. If you have any
problems, please let me know. There is a provision for disabling the game
sounds if you prefer the game to play quietly.
AxTrons combines a simple arena style game board with a fun introduction that
sets the scene. The object is to eliminate your opponents by setting traps or
direct combat based on the opponents energy level. Even if you try to stay
out of their way, the ClyAxistrons are very good at tracking you down. To add
to the scene, the crowd around the arena toss "power coins" which are picked
up to add strength. All of the rules are explained inside the game.
Press a cursor key to start your player in the desired direction. You can
change your direction by pressing another cursor key. The corner keys on the
number keypad will let you move diagonally. Press the <SPACE> bar if you want
to stop. You can use the <TAB> or <SHIFT> and <TAB> keys to speed up or slow
down the action.
Your best defense and offense is to drop a pattern of Grids as quickly as
possible by pressing the <G> key. The ClyAxistrons will usually go after the
Grids instead of you. Don't forget the ClyAxistrons can also move diagonally.
If you succeed at doing in all of the aliens, you'll start the next round with
more energy and be able to get a higher score. It takes a little practice to
figure out when it's safe to engage in hand-to-hand combat. I built the game
and I still lose a lot. Read the rules in the game carefully the first couple
of times you play. It will help you get started.
You may copy the AxTrons files into any directory on hard disk or another
floppy. The only real requirement is that all of the files associated with
the game, except for the BAT file, must be in the same directory. You may
activate the program directly, with a BAT file, or from ActMenu. If you put
AxTrons on your hard disk, you may have to adapt the BAT file for your system.
If you get a really high score, send me a screen print and a registration form
indicating which game disk you would like. I'm in the habit of sending a free
game disk to the top score holders.
Good luck, and let me know if you enjoy AxTrons. Your support for my programs
is sincerely appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris
P.S. Please retain the original files if you are going to pass AxTrons along.
